Vauxhall Sky Gardens
Located amidst the Nine Elms district of development, Sky Gardens is a 120m/35 storey high statement of contemporary urban living, in one of London’s best-connected and emerging riverside neighbourhoods. A landmark collection of private apartments with enclosed gardens high above the capital the development provides for a spectacular lifestyle.
All apartments will have their own "winter garden" or balcony, but as the building name suggests, situated on the 8th and 35th floor are the communal ‘Sky Gardens’ designed by the award-winning Gillespies. These sublime, organic spaces are open exclusively to residents and their guests, for daytime relaxation, watching the sunset over the capital or after-dark entertainment.
The internal garden on level 8 is designed for all year round usage, with temperature and humidity controlled to ensure maximum enjoyment and optimum conditions for the plants. The forest of 130 Silver Birch trees on the roof will become a landmark feature crowning this building for years to come. Play equipment was provided with safety surfacing for the children living in the development to use.
The curved timber planters with integrated benches were a challenge to construct on the roofs. There was no crane access to the 8th floor so all materials had to come up in the hoist which restricted the size and handling of materials.
