Athletes Village
The site was initially used as the Athletes Village in 2012, and has now begun its transformation into a legacy community containing residential, retail, office and educational facilities.
Frosts worked closely alongside P.J.Careys to provide a Streetscape befitting the London Games, ensuring that the finished product was installed to a very stringent specification and delivered on-time to the ODA in readiness for the London Games.
The special nature of the project also created unusual conditions. Heightened security and a peak workforce on-site of approximately 15,000 men a day meant that time, space & delivery windows were of a premium for each company. To facilitate this, Frosts instigated & followed a just-in-time strategy for bulk material procurement to minimise standing time, wastage & double-handling. This operated in tandem with the tree deliveries that arrived from Europe and had to be planted within 24 hours of arrival on-site.
By working closely with the Client’s representative and the groundworks’ contractor, Frosts were able to complete the Village streetscape on time to host the athletes of the 2012 Games. Upon returning post-Games for the transformation of the QEOP it is clear to see that the landscape has established & continues to perform exceptionally well.
Original works consisted of :
- 5400m2 Herbaceous & Shrub Planting.
- 8945m3 Specialist imported fill materials for tree planting.
- 700 Semi-Mature & mature Trees.
- 13,000 Herbaceous & Ornamental shrubs.
